The Dangers of DIY Electrics!

A Classic Case of DIY Gone Wrong

We recently received a call to fix what initially seemed like a simple electrical issue, but it turned out to be a classic case of DIY gone wrong. The homeowner had attempted to rewire a few sockets and install new lighting, thinking it would be a straightforward weekend project. Unfortunately, what started as a money-saving effort quickly turned into a safety hazard.

When we arrived, we found several serious issues:

  • Exposed Wiring:
The wiring wasn’t properly insulated, posing a risk of electrical shock.

  • Overloaded Circuits:
The new lighting had been added to an already overloaded circuit, creating a potential fire hazard.

  • Incorrect Connections:
Several connections were made incorrectly, which could have led to malfunctioning devices or worse.

Thankfully, we were able to rectify the situation before any harm was done, but it’s a reminder of why electrical work should be left to the professionals.

If you have any concerns about the safety of your own electrical systems, or if you’re overdue for an inspection, don’t hesitate to get in touch. Electrical safety should never be compromised!
